Let’s kick start my new blog with a little flight back to 2017!
Every year is a chance to start afresh leaving behind the misfortunes and negatives of the previous year. Whilst every year, l feel older and more grown up, l can respectfully say, 2017 was one of the best years of my life in terms of gaining life lessons. I would love to share with you the five difficult, however equally rewarding lessons that the previous year has taught me.
Settle in, grab a cup of tea and a snack, and enjoy my reflection journey with me!
1. Don’t be afraid to follow your dreams. It won’t be easy but it will be worth it in the end.
For the longest time, blogging had always been a thought in the back of my mind waiting to be tapped and developed. However, fear got the best of me. I was afraid that no one would be interested to read my writing. That l would be laughed at or made fun by others. As time went by, l realised that l had a dream. A dream that l could turn into a perfect reality, yet l was allowing fear to become an obstacle.
l began my first blog on April the 20th 2017, in the hope that l would be able to help and motivate others through some of my experiences. Whilst l enjoyed my first blog, l felt like l hadn’t quite developed the blog niche that l wanted.
Something was missing.
l wanted my blog to be different, unique and meaningful.
I wanted to stand for something.
It Wasn’t Easy
After only about 3 months of blogging, l shut down and decided to take a little break from blogging. This “little break” turned into a month, then 3 months and now, almost 7 months since l last wrote.
Whilst l never expected to take a break this long, circumstances were not in my favour and it was what it was. During this lengthy break, l decided to rebrand and this sparked the idea of creating Beeing You. You can read more about how this came about here.
Regardless of the fact that it took me so long to find were l stand in life and in the blogging world, l had a dream and l made it a reality. For this, it gives me great happiness. It may not have gone as l planned, but everything in life is an experience.
We can only learn from it.
Top Tip: No matter what your dream is, believe in yourself and make it a reality. Don’t let fear stop you from making your dreams become a reality.
2. Just do you and stay in your own lane
Unknowingly, we sometimes seek approval from society hoping to impress or be seen in a certain way. Whether we realise this or not, some of us have been culprits of this at some point.
I, for one, have definitely been a culprit of this.
Realisation dawned upon me that l had to be comfortable being me but also try to understand those around me more. Only then, would it be easy to focus on myself and to allow myself to make decisions for me as a person. I have learnt that it is okay to just be me and do what l feel is important to become the best version of myself for me.
Everyone’s journey through life is different and sometimes focusing on other people’s journey can cause us to look at ourselves in a different light, causing us to forget the beauty in ourselves.
Top Tip: Your journey is unique. No one’s journey is the same. Always remember that.
3. Trust Your Instincts
You know when you have a strong feeling about something in your life and you just know that you have to make a certain decision?
Follow your instincts.
Whilst other people’s advice might contradict our choices, it is important to decide for yourself what is most important for you. I had to learn to trust myself and you trust that the various decisions l was making were right for me.
As Joyce Meyer beautifully put it:
“You have to be willing to be wrong to be sure that you are right”.
It’s okay if things don’t work out. In life, mistakes can be made. As long as you learn from them, that’s the most important thing. If you are willing to be wrong just to know for definite that you are right, is it not worth a try? This way, whether it works out or not, you will never have to ask yourself “what if?”
Top Tip: It’s better to try and make a mistake than to continuously ask yourself “what if?”
4. All actions have consequences
When you think about it, all inputs have outputs. For instance, for every hour you study (input), you gain knowledge or great results (output). Everything we do in life has a consequence and it is so important to remember this. It is very easy to get influenced to do things that are very much out of our character or simply be people we are not.
l have had to continuously remind myself that every choice has a result. This result may be good or bad. It all depends on you. Life is a learning process and we all make mistakes.
Nobody is prefect.
I have made my own personal mistakes and l have had to heavily learn from them. The great thing about life is that mistakes help you learn a lot more about what kind of person you are and what kind of people others are.
Top Tip: Mistakes are a stepping stone into success. Don’t be afraid to make them.
5. Everything Happens For A Reason
This one is one that we hear almost ALL the time. When we are going through something and our friends tell us this, the reality is, it’s actually harder than it actually seems to believe this.
I remember being at the lowest of the lowest and literally not knowing what to do with myself. I was sad almost all the time. It’s only now, that l realise that when you are in that place, there is always one way forward.
It’s going up.
Everything does happen for a reason. It’s only when you look back, that you realise the various reasons these things happened and you are actually grateful for the experience.
Top Tip: Be strong and remember, the only way is forward and upwards!
With this, ends our journey for today! I hope you enjoyed reading this.
