£35 AFFORDABLE Drugstore Makeup Haul and Review | Superdrug |

Disclaimer: This review is simply based on how l felt these products worked on me and my sensitive skin. These are my own views and all products were purchased with personal funds.

Being a late bloomer into the makeup world, l am still finding my feet when it comes to the products that l like and what brands to go for.

First and foremost, l always look at affordability because l find it difficult to spend money of expensive brands on a student budget. Whilst l love and do own a few high end products, majority of them were gifts.

l constantly find myself having to categorise everything l buy into four categories:

Urgent Needs

Can-Wait Needs

Urgent Wants

Can-Wait Wants

Today l will be reviewing the makeup products that l bought amounting to £35.

Of course affordable makeup does have it’s risks. The main one being that the makeup will end up being of terrible quality.

With all makeup, there is that risk. I just prefer to take that risk with affordable makeup. I hope you enjoy reading my thoughts as much as l enjoyed writing them.

NIP+FAB Make Up Primer Water

I haven’t used a primer in so long! When l saw this primer on display whilst queuing up at the checkout, l had to purchase it. I have a skin condition which often leads to me having dry skin and l have to go to extreme lengths trying to prevent this.

The water based primer contains witch hazel and hyaluronic acid (l love witch hazel products). I decided to try this product as l thought that a water primer would be best as it would help hydrate my skin in the process.

You know what?

Best decision l have honestly ever made!

This primer is great and works well for me! I have been using it for about 2-3 weeks so l can vouch for it. However different products work well for different people so do keep that in mind too. I am glad that l didn’t come across the reviews beforehand because this had a 2/5 star review on the Superdrug website.

For me, it deserved more.

Superdrug Studio:   Blending Eyeshadow Brush and Smokey Eye Brush

Blending Brush

Smokey Eye Brush

Having not owned a set of proper eyeshadow brushes in a long time, l decided to buy these. Every time l apply my eyeshadow, l use these brushes and they are absolutely perfect! Studio London brushes are excellentaffordable and a great alternative if you are looking for cheaper brushes.

Superdrug Blending Eyeshadow Brush Rating: 4.5/5

Superdrug Smokey Eye Brush Rating : 2.3/5

My Rating:  5/5 for both brushes

Superdrug Studio Easy Grip Eyelash Curler 2 Piece

Considering l have never used one before, l think the first few times actually went very well. The curler gives my little eyelashes a lovely curl meaning l don’t feel like my eyelashes are constantly in my way during the day.

Makeup Revolution Illuminating Fixing Spray

I have  read many great reviews about this Makeup Revolution Fixing Spray. However, l was always reluctant to try it due to a bad experience with a similar fixing spray from Makeup Revolution. I decided to buy it and try it anyway!

Second time lucky right?

Honestly, l haven’t been disappointed! My makeup stays on all day from 7am to 8pm and past that! It also gives me this fantastic glow on my face so for £5, it does a fantastic job! Again, every product does work different for everyone. For me, it happens to be  fanstastic.

MUA Luxe Highlight Shimmer Stick – Light Gold

am a little 30/70 on MUA products as they are yet to impress me. I rarely buy their products, however, l really wanted to try out their products.

For someone who barely uses highlight, l thought this would be worth the try as it was only £3. The shimmer stick was easy to use and the colour is absolutely beautiful.

However, it was a little difficult to blend and l had to reapply it to get the shimmer l wanted (maybe l was doing it wrong).

It didn’t last me throughout the day either.

MUA Luxe Power Brow Sculpting Gel – Chestnut

This eyebrow gel was not the best at all.  The “dark brown” seemed lighter than the “chestnut” so l opted for the chestnut. Upon opening the product, it was very dry and the gel parted into three chunks.

This threw me off immediately. Why was a gel l had just bought parting in three as if l had dropped it? What a disappointment for the £4 paid. I will try and write a brow gel review comparing this one and another affordable brow gel that l recently bought. Keep an eye out for that!

MUA Brow Define Eyebrow Tint – Dark Brown

To be honest, l knew nothing about eyebrow tints until very recently. When l bought this, l wasn’t quite sure how to use it but thank goodness for the YouTube and Google!

The brow define eyebrow tint was actually pretty good. I found that l had apply quite a bit of it to get the look l wanted but that’s okay. It’s very helpful when l don’t have much time to fill my eyebrows in. If you’re like me and take like 15 mins to do your make up or just want your brows done super quick, l would definitely recommend this.

MUA Lip Liner – Red Drama

For just a pound, this lip liner was actually great. I have come across better affordable lip liners that are easily useable and don’t break easily. However, this one works very well when mixed with lipstick or lip gloss. As l said, for the price it is quite good, but l have seen better.

Superdrug Rating: 4.4/5

My Rating: 3/5

Browcote Waterproof Eyebrow Sealer – Clear

I’ve only managed to use this eyebrow sealer once or twice and it is okay. I have never come across an eyebrow sealer so this was my first. I would say the applicator is quite thin and for someone like me with thick brows it was a little difficult but l think l eventually got the hang of it.

Superdrug Rating: 4.6/5

My Rating: 3.5/5

Superdrug Striplash Adhesive – White

One of my 2018 mini resolutions is to learn how to apply lashes. Being me, l thought l could buy some lash glue and give lashes a go as l had some lashes at home. The glue is actually quite good. It’s just a shame that l can’t seem to do lashes properly. I ended up giving up as one eyelash stuck to my nail and the other to my dresser.

I’ll just keep trying l guess.

After spending £35 on all these items Superdrug did make it worth my while by giving me a small token of appreciation. Who doesn’t like a freebie?

They gave me a little box of Sleek Makeup Products! These consisted of:

Mini version of the I-Divine- All Night Long palette

Full size Dip it Eyeliner – Black worth  £4.99

Full size Lip VIP in Show Off – Scandalous worth £5.50

Thanks Superdrug!

As l said, with affordable makeup, not everything can be amazing. For me, l loved majority of what l bought so l am very happy!

I love your categories, I need to print them out and keep them in my purse at all times, haha. This was such an interesting post. I think you always take a risk with drugstore products in terms of efficacy and skin sensitivity but many of them are really upping their game to compete with the bigger brands now so it’s worth a shot. And that’s clearly the case with the fixing spray – I shall have to check it out too!

This is so funny! I categorise my beauty wish list in a very similar way. What do I need? What do I really need? And what do I really really want? The primer water sounds really good, I’ve never used a primer water before so that could be interesting. I love how you compared your rating to the one online too x
